Hi World!

I'M Shaan taseer

I paint wanderlust. My art is an invitation to a journey to see the places I have been to. A city is something silent and eternal; the crevices, and shadows that make up peoples living spaces are often reflections of their inner worlds. I seek to discover that world and juxtapose it against the beauty and violence of existence.

The city and its characters are the star of the show. In a COVID world, my art has evolved from the figurative to the abstract. I use multiple media to create texture and layers to draw the viewer into my inner world of isolation. With form and design I skirt the border between the seen and concealed, and between order and chaos. In so doing, I paint the contradictions that make up a complexed society.

I invite the viewer to discover my cities through these paradoxes. Does the city reveal its secrets? I let the viewer decide.

I live and work in Toronto. My art is political, being an activist for the rights of minorities and religious freedoms, I have experienced religious violence up close and personally and explore these themes in the vocabulary of art
